Choose the camera and lens combination for the actual trip before opening the bag. A city walk, a family visit and a stationary indoor recording session do not require the same accessories. Write down the few shots you expect to make and pack equipment that serves them. Leave speculative extras at home when they add weight without a defined purpose.

Check the camera with the lens, strap and plate you intend to use. Make sure the combination fits the bag and that the battery and card compartments remain accessible. Pack caps and a small approved cleaning kit where you can reach them without unloading everything.

Rehearse charging as a complete chain

Identify the battery, charger, power supply and cable required by the camera's instructions. Confirm that every necessary part is packed; a charger with no suitable lead is only a shaped piece of luggage. If the camera supports charging through its own port, verify the exact method and operating conditions for your model before relying on it.

Try the setup at home and check that it charges normally. Do not assume a phone charger or a different camera's battery charger is interchangeable. If travelling internationally, confirm the input specification and plug arrangement for the approved equipment. Follow current airline and manufacturer requirements if the trip includes air travel.

Keep spare batteries protected as directed by the manufacturer, with terminals covered where required. Separate their ready-to-use and depleted states in a way you can recognise. Avoid loose storage beside metal objects or pressure from heavy equipment.

Plan where the pictures go afterwards

Take suitable cards and give each one an identifier. If you will copy photographs during the trip, bring the tested reader and storage combination rather than an unfamiliar adapter purchased at the last moment. Keep source cards unchanged until the copy has been verified and your backup step completed.

Before leaving each location, count the small items: cards, charger, cable, lens cap and any removable tripod plate. These are often distributed around a room while the camera itself remains obvious.

When you return, import and back up new material before emptying cards for another job. Recharge and repack the kit deliberately, noting anything that was missing or unused. That short review makes the next trip easier to prepare without turning every outing into a larger equipment purchase.
