Start with the manufacturer's cleaning instructions for your phone. Then identify the case material and its own care guidance. A fabric cover, clear plastic shell and leather accessory should not automatically receive the same treatment simply because they fit the same device.
Apple's general product-cleaning guidance distinguishes products and accessories and describes precautions around moisture and openings. Use the current instructions for the item in front of you rather than copying a social-media cleaning recipe. The aim is routine cleaning, not an improvised repair for damaged material.
Separate the pieces that can be removed
If the case instructions call for removal, take it off using the intended method. Disconnect accessories and follow the phone maker's preparation steps. Place the device on a clean surface where it will not be scratched by an item hidden under a cloth.
Inspect the inside of the case for trapped debris without scraping the phone or using a sharp tool. If an opening or connector appears obstructed, consult the manufacturer's guidance rather than pushing an object inside. Cleaning an outer surface and working inside a port are different tasks.
Match the method to the material
Use the specified cloth and cleaning approach. Do not assume that a household disinfectant, solvent or abrasive pad is suitable because it works on a table. Check any stated restrictions before applying a product, including instructions for printed surfaces or coatings.
Keep liquids away from openings as directed and allow the parts to dry according to their instructions before reassembly or charging. Water resistance is not permission to apply any liquid or cleaning method you choose.
If a mark remains, decide whether it is dirt or material wear before escalating the treatment. Repeatedly scrubbing a discoloured case can damage its finish without restoring the original appearance. Ask the maker about the material if the difference is unclear.
Once the pieces are ready, check that the case is seated correctly and the controls still operate normally. Make routine cleaning easy by keeping the appropriate cloth where you use the device. There is little benefit in an elaborate kit if it encourages experimenting with products that the manufacturer does not recommend.
